The investment strategy behind the new
Mutuals.com Vice Fund is not the only thing that is just a little bit different about the new fund. The fund sponsor is also trying a different gambit to make brokers aware of the fund and swiping a page from the MTV playbook.
The music video channel ran a successful "I want my MTV" campaign in the 1980's that used watchers to convince cable networks to carry the station. The fund firm is trying to get fund investors to lend it a similar helping hand.
Mutuals.com put out a press release informing the public of the new funds Nasdaq ticker, something other fund firm's rarely do. The release noted that investors can use the ticker to bring the fund to the awareness of brokers.
"A new fund is difficult for many people to buy because the brokerage firms simply don't have the information yet. The VICEX ticker symbol will certainly help simplify the process", explained
Brian Scheibmeir, director of Information Technology.
Until now, investors had only been able to purchase the fund directly from Mutuals.com. Starting yesterday, the firm also started offering the fund through discounters
T.D. Waterhouse,
Harris Direct, and
Vanguard Brokerage.
It is hoping that brokerage clients will win the fund space on the shelves of other broker-dealers.
"Ask your brokerage firm to add the MUTUALS.com VICE FUND to their availability list," pleads the release. We will see if they do.
