Pimco is making a foray into the Canadian retail market with the launch of eight Canadian-registered mutual funds.
The new funds include Pimco Canadian Short Term Bond; Pimco Canadian Total Return Bond Fund; Pimco Canadian Long Term Bond Fund; Pimco Canadian Real Return Bond Fund; Pimco Monthly Income Fund; Pimco Global Advantage Strategy Bond Fund (Canada); Pimco Global Balanced Fund (Canada); and Pimco EqS Pathfinder Fund (Canada).
"We continue to expand the range of PIMCO's investment management expertise available to Canadian investors and advisors," said Ed Devlin, executive vice president and head of Canadian portfolio management, in a press release.
Dow Jones' Evelyn Juan notes that for more than five years, Pimco had been focusing exclusively on insitutional investors in Canada.
The Financial Post also picked up on Pimco's retail foray.

The new funds offer solutions including short- and long-term fixed income, real and absolute return, monthly income and global equities -- all anchored by PIMCO's proven investment process that focuses on delivering risk adjusted returns. These funds build on PIMCO's decade of providing fixed-income solutions for Canadian institutions.

The eight funds PIMCO is launching include:
PIMCO Canadian Short Term Bond: an actively managed diversified portfolio of short and intermediate Canadian fixed-income securities that offers potential for higher returns relative to the DEX Short Term Bond Index. (Class A - Front End: PMO001)
PIMCO Canadian Total Return Bond Fund: an actively managed diversified portfolio of high quality Canadian fixed-income securities that offers the potential for higher returns relative to the DEX Universe Bond Index. (Class A - Front End: PMO002)
PIMCO Canadian Long Term Bond Fund: an actively managed diversified portfolio of high quality Canadian fixed-income instruments of longer term maturities that offer potential for higher returns relative to the DEX Long Term Bond Index. (Class A - Front End: PMO003)
PIMCO Canadian Real Return Bond Fund: an actively managed diversified portfolio of Canadian real return bonds that aims to preserve investors' purchasing power. (Class A - Front End: PMO004)
PIMCO Monthly Income Fund (Canada): an actively managed diversified portfolio of non-Canadian fixed-income instruments of varying maturities that seeks to maximize current income while maintaining a relatively low risk profile. (Class A - Front End: PMO005)
PIMCO Global Advantage(TM) Strategy Bond Fund (Canada): an actively managed portfolio of fixed-income securities from both developed and developing markets, benchmarked to the proprietary GDP-weighted PIMCO Global Advantage Bond Index (GLADI(TM)). (Class A - Front End: PMO006)
PIMCO Global Balanced Fund (Canada): a "fund of funds" that seeks a balanced approach blending global equity and fixed income by investing in the PIMCO Global Advantage Strategy Bond Fund (Canada) and the PIMCO EqS Pathfinder Fund(TM) (Canada). (Class A - Front End: PMO007)
