Two former executives with Fidelity Investments,
Ani Chitaley and
Anthony DuBon, are hoping to steer people to mutual funds. The pair founded FundReveal for the task and so far the firm has been highlighted in both
Barron's and the
Mutual Fund Observer.
The screen uses "proprietary measures of risk-and-return and managers' decision-making abilities over long stretches of time." They claim that this is a superior methodology to relying on past returns and "hunches, opinions and popularity."
Barron's "does not care" for the service, noting that uses are told to "scroll through 20 quarters of grades for each fund" and that it has a "clumsy" presentation.
The final ding is that the site's picks "weren't much different" from the picks of other fund screening tools.
The bottom line: "a long run for a short slide."
