Mutual fund fees are falling. Yesterday the
ICI released data to that effect, and Mark Jewell of the
Associated Press reported on similar data just released by
Morningstar.
Ross Kerber of
Reuters also covered the reports on fees.
The Chicago-based mutual fund ratings specialists found that the typical mutual fund investor paid 75 basis points last year, down from two bps. And when Morningstar sorted funds into five buckets, ranked by fees, only the cheapest quintile saw net 2011 inflows, in this case of $122 billion -- the four other quintiles all suffered net outflows.
