Add "techie" to the list of nicknames for
Vanguard [
profile]. The mutual fund giant has granted several executive roles to former IT personnel, a move that reporter Chris Murphy notes in
InformationWeek as a nod to Vanguard's high regard for tech.
The "coveted" role of chief investment officer goes to
Tim Buckley, who most recently ran Vanguard's retail business but also led IT operations in the early 2000s, when Vanguard was first establishing its Web presence. Meanwhile,
John Marcante, also a former techie, takes over the position of chief information officer from
Paul Heller, who will now head up the retail investor group and is also — surprise, surprise — a techie.
