A
Barron's article from this weekend
weighs in on the latest round of what writer Beverly Goodman calls the "inane-but-ever-present 'ETF versus mutual fund' debate."
Goodman says that even with a few recent ETF shutdowns and more to possibly come, ETFs are not on the verge of extinction.
The article focuses some attention on
Pimco's [
profile]
Total Return ETF, noting that the difference maker on that $2.5 billion fund is the same as it always is with Pimco:
Bill Gross.
"Pimco is a great example that if you're going to be late to the game, you have to bring something very different to the table," said Michael Johnston, co-founder and CEO of
ETF Database, to
Barron's. "They brought Bill Gross to the table. No other firm can do that."
