During his days running
Fidelity's operations,
Bob Reynolds used cutting edge tech as a way to drive a wedge between Fidelity and its competition. That he is trying the same trick now that he is CEO at
Putnam Investments [
profile] should come as no surprise.
A key difference is that Reynold's target at Putnam is the financial advisor, whereas his target at Fidelity was corporate plan sponsors.
Putnam's tools for advisors have included Google-like charting tools for comparing mutual funds (
FundVisualizer) and a private-label of a popular app (
Red Laser). Reynolds himself has even
started tweeting.
Now Putnam is launching a blog at
advisortechtips.com to share tech and business building tips with advisors. Global distribution head
Bill Connolly and marketing chief Mark McKenna explain that they seek to help the "financial advisor community better understand, adapt, and fully leverage the many new resources available to help build their practices."
The site contains videos on topics such as optimizing the use of iPads, merchandising apps and strengthening one’s presence on LinkedIn.
Some sample topics include:
10 Must-Have Apps for Every Advisor,
5 Ways to Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile,
Comparing Funds on FundVisualizer,
Twitter as a Listening Tool,
Using LinkedIn as a Prospecting Tool, and
Using an Infographic with a Client.
To leverage the effort, Putnam also created a LinkedIn Group "Advisor Tech Tips".
