Bill McNabb wants investors to cool off their expectations for bond funds in the next decade, citing the stocks in the last decade as a cautionary tale, according to
InvestmentNews.
Reporter Jason Kephart notes that in 1999, stocks were riding high before the tech crash led to a “lost decade.”
Even though such an extreme won’t necessarily happen, bonds can’t sustain their current return forever, McNabb said.
"It's always dangerous to predict returns, but the probability of bonds having the same return over the next 10 years as the last 10 is almost zero," he told
InvestmentNews.
