BlackRock [profile] has hired Swiss Re's former chief investment officer to serve as the American asset manager's head of Europe, the Middle East and Africa, according to a number of news outlets.

BusinessWeek reports that 44-year-old Blumer, who stepped down as Swiss Re CIO in October, will take up the newly created position at BlackRock on April 8. His appointment is subject to regulatory approval by the U.K. Financial Services Authority.
