Regulators: 1. Mutual fund industry: 0. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia upheld a decision by a federal district court to allow a rule requiring mutual fund companies that trade in commodities to register with regulators, the
WSJ's Jamila Trindle reported.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the Investment Company Institute argued the rule should be kaput because those funds already have to register with the S.E.C., Trindle reported. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission may have won this time, but the industry has had its wins. A federal court recently tossed out one of the commission's rules designed to curtail bets in energy commodities.
