James C. Fallon and
Matthew W. Krummell, investment officers at
MFS Investment Management [
profile] will be PMs to a new fund in the
MFS® SERIES TRUST I family, the
MFS Low Volatility U.S. Equity Fund.
That is of course, if the
SEC approves the new fund, which was filed for review on August 9. If approved, the new fund will look to invest at least 80 percent of its net assets in U.S. equity securities. It is expected that the fund will typically underperform the equity markets during rising equity markets. Investments will be chosen based on analysis of individual issuers and quantitative models that evaluate issuers, generally the 1,000 largest U.S. issuers. MFS execs aim to cut out roughly 40 percent of the most volatile stocks based on historical volatility as potential investments for the fund.
