AEGON Group has tapped Paula Nelson to product and distribution initiatives for its Transamerica Capital unit. The new duties mean that she will oversee business development and marketing for the Denver-based broker-dealer that handles Transamerica's IDEX fund family and its variable annuities. She will focus on key relationships and expanding cross-marketing efforts, according to the firm.

Nelson will keep her position as chief executive officer of Transamerica Financial Institutions and will remain based in Minneapolis. In that job she is responsible for the overall management of AEGON's retirement product distribution strategy for financial institutions and the wholesale organization supporting the financial institution channel.

"Paula Nelson will be a tremendous asset to the Transamerica Capital team," said Larry Norman, president of the AEGON Companies Financial Markets Group, in a statement. He said that one effort that will be continued by Nelson will be to increase the number of Transamerica investment management and insurance products offered through the two distribution channels she now oversees.

Meanwhile, Transamerica Investment Management has hired Ted E. Harris as vice president of Retail Sales. Harris will oversee sales of the Transamerica Premier Funds and the TIM subadvised portfolios in the IDEX Mutual Funds and the Transamerica/WRL variable products. He reports through the investment manager's sales and marketing office in Denver.

"He will play a key role in marketing TIM's products to our distribution partners inside and outside of AEGON as we expand our presence in the retail arena," said David W. Lubchenco, vice president and managing director of Sales and Marketing.

Harris most recently spent seven years at Luther King Capital Management as vice president and director of Marketing.
