Week In Preview, May 21-28

Today Robert Cook and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (Finra) team will kick off the 2018 Finra Annual Conference. The three-day conference is being held at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C. and features an opening-night reception tonight at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. SEC Chairman Jay Clayton, Cook (Finra's president and CEO), and SEC trading and markets division director Brett Redfearn are all scheduled to speak.

Tomorrow Investment Company Institute (ICI) chief Paul Schott Stevens and the ICI team will kick off the mutual fund industry trade group's 2018 General Membership Meeting (GMM). The three-day event will be held at the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., and also features three parallel ICI conferences: one on operations and technology, one on compliance, and one for fund directors. Featured speakers will include: Rupal Bhansali, chief investment officer of international and global equities at Ariel; Maria Chandoha, president and CEO of Charles Schwab Investment Management; Jillian DelSignore, head of ETF distribution at Morgan Stanley; Tom Eck, chief technology officer for industry platforms at IBM; Marty Flanagan, president and CEO of Invesco; James Gorman, chairman and CEO of Morgan Stanley; Amy Herman, art historian; Yie-Hsin Hung, CEO of New York Life Investment Management (NYLIM); David Hunt, president and CEO of PGIM; Adam Jonas, managing director at Morgan Stanley; Sarah Ketterer, CEO and co-founder of Causeway Capital Management; Teresa Kong, PM at Matthews Asia; Jerry Linenger, NASA astronaut; Jon Meacham, presidential historian; Kirk Moore, head of global research at Columbia Threadneedle; Matthew O'Connor, president of American Funds Distributors at Capital Group; Michael Piwowar, outgoing SEC Commissioner; Stuart Parker, president and CEO of PGIM Investments and chairman of the GMM planning committee; Chad Renfro, head of enterprise cybersecurity at Fidelity; David Rubenstein, co-founder and co-executive chairman of the Carlyle Group; David Semaya, executive advisor to Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management; Stevens himself, president and CEO of the ICI; Ted Truscott, CEO of Columbia Threadneedle and chairman of the ICI; and Andreas Utermann, CEO of Allianz Global Investors. The conference will feature a dinner reception Wednesday night at the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of African American History and Culture, as well as a media dinner tommorrow night at Darlington House and FUSE's annual Strategic Networking Symposium (also tomorrow night) at Buffalo Billiards.
