With more than 25 years' experience in investment management,
Robert (Bob) Zakem, managing director at
Deloitte & Touche, will retire on May 31.
"My advice for people like myself who have been in a control function, such as legal, compliance, or risk, is to really understand how the business is done from a practical experience so you're in a better position to council your clients," Zakem tells
MFWire. "I think I've succeeded well in my career because I understood my partners and the business."
Prior to joining Deloitte, Zakem worked at RidgeWorth Investments as a managing director, general counsel and chief compliance officer. He also held positions in Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, UBS Wealth Management, and AIG SunAmerica Asset Management.
Zakem is currently focusing on working towards transitioning into his next phase and believes his future plans will not be pursued until early next year as he is still "trying to figure out [his] next move."
Zakem holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Detroit Mercy and holds a J.D. in law from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
