Scanlon will be based in the newly-established Lear office in Boston, and will be responsible for marketing and investor relations with existing and prospective investors, including financial intermediaries, families offices, high net worth individuals, and foundations.
"I joined Lear as head of relationship management, which will involve client servicing, marketing, sales, but mostly focused on enhancing and developing the relationships that the firm has already set in place," Scanlon tells
MFWire.
"As Lear nears our 6-year anniversary, we see unprecedented opportunities to build on our enviable track record and asset growth, which includes a doubling of the asset under management in 2020," states
Rick Lear, managing partner at Lear. "Doing so successfully means that we must attract and retain the best people."
"A big reason why I joined Rick and the team at Lear is because they are very passionate about managing client portfolios with a heavy emphasis on risk management," Scanlon continues to
MFWire. "And they have a very impressive five year performance number with two standard deviations less than the benchmark, so they are doing what they told clients they would do which is deliver equity like returns without equity risk."
"Jim is certainly representative of this approach, as he brings deep industry knowledge, keen relationship skills and a strong network to the firm," Lear states. "Importantly, Jim's dedicated focus on our relationships will enable the investment team to do what we do best: acting wisely and opportunistically. We welcome Jim to the Lear Investment Management team and look forward to his contributions from our newly-established Boston office."
A Western New England University alumnus, Scanlon served at RX2Live for nearly two years as regional director before joining Lear. Before that, he served at
Gabelli Asset Management for nearly 13 years, rising to
head of distribution, national sales manager. Prior. Scanlon served at Merrill Lynch for nearly five years as vice president of retirement sales. Scanlon also served at Putnam investments for nearly six years as regional vice president, retirement wholesaler.
