Twelve years after
Nancy M. Morris left the SEC to taste industry, she is returning to the SEC to serve a two-year stint in the Division of Investment Management as an attorney-fellow.
Morris was formerly vice president and associate legal counsel at
T. Rowe Price Associates.
David Oestreicher, associate legal counsel, will take over Morris' duties at T. Rowe Price on an interim basis while the fund firm searches for a new associate legal counsel. The new hire will report to Oestreicher and focus on U.S. institutional activities in support of retail advisors, said Brian Lewbart, spokesman for T. Rowe Price.
Morris supported the institutional team and other advisory operations at T. Rowe for over 10 years. Prior to working at T. Rowe, she worked in various positions at the SEC, including the Investment Management division.
"The recent mutual fund scandals raised my interest in returning to the commission -- [and I was] excited...to have the opportunity to return to public service" said Morris. Morris sought out a position at the SEC, she added.
The SEC's Investment Management division oversees mutual funds and investment advisers, as well as creates rules and review filings.
A General Accounting Office report released in April estimates that the SEC has a total of 190 employees working within the Division of Investment Management, and is requesting 10 additional employees for 2005.
