James O'Shaughnessy, 48, is mulling mutual funds at his new namesake firm.
Barron's reports that O'Shaughnessy, who left doomed
Bear Stearns in March to start
O'Shaughnessy Asset Management under a pre-arranged deal, is seeking backers so that his firm can launch new mutual funds. Currently, O'Shaughnessy manages $6 billion in mutual fund assets for the
Royal Bank of Canada's mutual fund unit. Another partnership like this with a big fund firm is what O'Shaughnessy tells Barron's he is hoping to replicate in other markets including the U.S.
