The fascination with exchange-traded funds has spread to the venture capital set. The WSJ's Fund Track column details a number of ETF funding deals, including ones led by Donald Putnam's Grail Partners (which invested in XShares) and Atlantic-Pacific Capital Inc. (which led a $56 million investment round in WisdomTree Investments Inc.) and FTVentures (it bought into ETF Securities Ltd. and in 2005, Powershares). Other ETF ventures seeking capital are New York-based Transparent Value and California-based AlphaShares Inc.
